helen scharfman, phd


Helen Scharfman received her BA degree from Vassar College in Biopsychology and her PhD from the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Pharmacology.  She trained as a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Philip Schwartzkroin from 1986-1989 and then was a Research Associate in the laboratory of Dr. Paul Adams until 1991 when she started her own laboratory as an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Pharmacology and Neurology at Columbia University/Helen Hayes Hospital.

Currently she is a Professor in the Departments of Child  $ Adolescent Psychiatry, Physiology & Neuroscience and Psychiatry at New York University Langone Medical Center (NYULMC) and her laboratory is at The Nathan Kline Institute, which is a state-supported research institute affiliated with NYULMC.
